A HOT new style of South American cuisine is sweeping across London -and an Islington restaurant is at the forefront of the movement. Nuevo Latino is a modern interpretation of traditional Latin American cooking, blending flavours and recipes from across the continent.

The name Sabor means "flavour" - and the focus here is firmly on great taste combinations, some classic, some ingeniously new. The "Nuevo Latino" menu takes in elements of Argentinian, Peruvian and Colombian styles, while carefully chosen wines and cocktails are mostly loyal to Sabor's Latin leanings.

And the final verdict was: a spicy and sharp innovative treasure trove of secret tastes in this pocket of the capital, so that Sabor certainly lives up to its flavoursome name.

Nuevo Latino features the spicy, tangy fresh flavours that make South American food so addictive... It's a very friendly; unpretentious sort of place on one of Islington's less glamorous streets.

Wild horses wouldn't have dragged me from the traditional lamb empanadas. My girlfriend went for the seafood ceviche... the Peruvian cornbread... was a revelation. A most welcoming and accomplished new restaurant.

While the 'experimental' nature of some of the cooking will not be to all tastes, there are plenty of 'reliable' classics to choose from... 'Friendly, professional' service comes in for high praise, too.

Lovely, very good food, with an extra exotic touch, good quality, service was excellent, friendly, clean, value for money, the cocktails were so good...
Islington Tribune
The menu offers a melange of South America specialities. Ambitious in not only having dishes from several countries but also combining classic cuisine with 'Nuevo Latino'. Sabor makes Essex Road proud and if more restaurants like this were to settle here it would become just as well known as its neighbouring Upper Street.
